Mariella: What is Puerto Rico? Is it a city? A country? A state? | Jackie: I think it’s a territory… | Mariella: Oh! This is the BEST territory I’ve ever been to!
Puerto Rico has literally everything. From delicious food, to beautiful white-sanded beaches, to gorgeous historic forts, a fabulous shopping mall and much more. This city is the perfect combination between the US and South America. It has everything the US has to offer but with its own culture.
We were so confused because we felt like we were in a foreign country but we were in the US, technically. Puerto Rico looks just like South America, but there are American restaurants and stores like Cheesecake factory, CVS and Wendys? Sometimes we would speak in English accidentally, and we were like wait… why am I speaking in English? Haha
Since we stayed there only 3 days, we decided to take advantage of every second. Here are the highlights of our adventure:
1. Viejo San Juan, Puerto Rico
We went there every day, and every time we had a different activity planned. Viejo San Juan is the most gorgeous old little town with beautiful Spanish architecture. Loved it! This involves a lot of walking, so bring comfortable shoes! And definitely not heels. (But more on that later). Our main activity was enjoying the historic side of Puerto Rico and to rum taste all the different kind of rums we could find. This was a fun activity, until it lasted lol
2. Castillo de San Cristobal in Viejo San Juan
My cousin Carla didn’t want to go to a “touristy place” in Puerto Rico, but we made her go to the Castillo de San Cristobal in Viejo San Juan. How can you visit Puerto Rico and not go to the most historic attraction? Thank god we convinced her because this place was stunning, especially during the sunset. The views of the city were just unbelievable.
Don’t go to the fancy restaurants; go to where the real Puerto Ricans eat. Try the plantains Mofongo with shrimps; it’s literally heaven on earth!
4. Playa de Isla Verde
All the beaches in Puerto Rico are beautiful, but we decided to go here because my cousin decided to take kite surfing classes lol. We decided to spend all day at this beach, and we had a great time gossiping, drinking, and eating all day.
5. La Concha Resort
This is by far the best resort in Puerto Rico. The location was great, the amenities were awesome, the rooms were huge with kitchen included, the breakfast menu was unbelievably good, and the staff was so nice! Except the waitress that forgot our lunch order, and didn’t bring it for another hour Lol
6. Plaza Las Americas
We weren’t planning on going to the mall, but of course my cousin lost her phone #classic. So we had to go to the mall and get a new iPhone really quick.
Mariella: This mall looks like Aventura Mall.| Jackie: OMG. I was going to say the same exact thing!
- Don’t wear heels or wedges if you are going to party in Viejo San Juan! Sandals are just fine.
- Don’t go on an important holiday (like Easter) literally everything closes on Good Friday.
- Don’t take Taxi’s. Every ride is $20, no matter the distance. It’s always going to be $20 lol.
- Be sure to go to Culebra… I regret not going!
