Highlights of Delphi

Only a 2-hour drive away from Athens. Delphi is a beautiful small town located at the top of a mountain offering a wonderful view of Greece’s highlands.

Delphi has a significant influence in the ancient world, recognized by the UNESCO. Here you can find the most important monuments of ancient Greece. Such as, The Sanctuary of Athena, Ancient Theater, Ancient Gymnasium, Temple of Apollo, Treasury of the Athenians and much more.

  • In ancient times, Delphi was considered the center of the known world. They believed this town was where heaven and earth met.
  •  The oracle of Delphi is devoted to God Apollo, son of Zeus!
  • Many travelers from around the world  claim to feel something “magical” when visiting the ancient ruins of Delphi. Some believe magic from thousands of years ago is still present! Interesting, right?
  • During the Winter, Delphi is the number one spot to ski!
  • Delphi’s theater, located at the top of the ancient ruins, is considered the best ancient ruin preserved in all of Greece.



  • Hire a driver that can take you to Delphi. Most cab drivers in Athens won’t want to, so make sure you plan ahead. The easiest way to book your transfer is thru!
  • If you plan to visit the museum, book a tour guide prior to your visit. When I visited all tour guides were busy. 
  • Visit early in the morning to avoid crowds.
  • The best day of the week to visit Delphi: Monday. 
  • Wear appropriate footwear. Visiting the ancient ruins involves some basic hiking! 
  • Make sure you go all the way to the top of the mountain! The panoramic views of Greece’s highlights are just mindblowing.
  • Stroll around Delphi’s town! Once you're done at the archeological site, walk across this lovely town. Perfect for window shopping and get some souvenirs!
  • If you want to grab a quick bite or have lunch in Delphi’s town, there are several Greek taverns to choose. Tantalize your palate with delicious Greek cuisine!

    Oh Delphi, ever since I’ve first read about this UNESCO site I’ve been wanting to go. Greece has so many interesting attractions but I am drawn to the cultural and historical sites most. Your photos are absolutely stunning. It is so amazing how well preserved the site is!

    Who would have thought you could ski in Delphi?! It looks so amazing, places like this always reminds me how historic Greece is. You give some great tips, especially about wearing the right footwear, it’s very easy to get it wrong.

  3. We had the chance to visit Delphi last month when we were visiting Greece. It was really a wonderful trip. I wish I had read this post before we went though. We always travel wearing good shoes so thankfully it went well, but I didn’t realize just how much hiking was involved in seeing the ruins! Totally worth the view!

  4. I agree that ruins like these definitely have a magical feel to them. I often like to just sit and meditate in places like this to see what comes up. I love that these ruins also involve some hiking.

  6. Whenever I see posts about Greece it’s always Athens or Santorini, etc. Thanks for sharing so much insightful information on Delphi! I had no idea it was considered the center of the known world, it looks beautifully preserved compared to some of the other locations in Greece I’ve seen.

  7. Delphi! Heard and saw some many beautiful things about it, but never visited myself. Been to Kos, Rhodes and Lesbos and love the Greek culture. Would be a great trip to skip the buzz from Athens and sook up some nature and do some hiking.

  8. I’ve never heard of this place but it looks beautiful! I love experiencing historical sites like this, that transport you back into the past. It’s crazy to think you can ski here though!!

  9. Oooh I wish I had spent more time in Athens so I could’ve taken a day trip to Delphi! I love looking at ancient ruins and picturing what live might have looked like back in that time. Great tips about wearing appropriate footwear and clothes too!
