Santa Fe Island, Galapagos: Home To The Sea Lions

In The Galapagos, you can see sea lions everywhere: at the pier, chilling' on benches, sleeping in boats, inside restaurants etc. But there’s no place like Santa Fe! This small island is home to hundreds of sea lions.

If you’re looking for the ultimate sea lion experience, look no further than Santa Fe. Here you can see them take a nap at the beach, swim around your boat, spot baby sea lions and much more.

In my opinion, the best tour is the one by The Finch Bay Hotel. Make sure to book your visit to Santa Fe with them. For more information, visit their website at

Until next trip,

The art of saying "Yes!" can take you far away. Many people pass on opportunities for many reasons, one of them being fear. Through my life I've encounter many people that forget to live the present for something that might not even happen in the future. If you are constantly waiting for the right time to finally do something, like fulfill your life dream, you are going to spend most of your life waiting.

My name is Mariella and I created this blog as a source of inspiration for others to believe they can live the life they always pictured. The secret? Believe you can and take action. The world awaits!

  1. I’ve been here and I absolutely loved seeing the sea lions in their gorgeous natural habitat! Did you get a chance to swim with them too? They are so playful. I felt like a little kid again!

Hi Lynne – Yes, I did! It was such an amazing experience I almost cried of happiness haha

  2. I went to Galapagos in December last year but did not have time to visit Santa Fe. However, I did loads of sea lions in Isabellas, who were not very friendly and barked and shooed me away! I am so glad you had the opportunity to get some awesome shots at Santa Fe.

How beautiful are these sea lions! It’s one of my dreams to visit Galapagos, so thank you for sharing this. They look so peaceful, and can I say happy?! Amazing!

They are so lazy haha They sleep all day long 🙂 Yes, most of them are happy I would say – the Alpha Male is the one that is always pissed haha

  4. Oh you saw them so near!! They’re so cute!! I love to observe wild animals. I would definitely wanna go to the Galapagos one day for that!

  5. I have always wanted to visit the Galapagos. These sea lions are just too adorable! They remind me of kittens:) (especially when they’re napping like that).

  6. The Galapagos Islands are on my bucket list. Now I know about the sea lions on Santa Fe Island so that will be added to my list of things to there.

Hi Jamie – you can see sea lions everywhere in the Galapagos. Some of them even chill outside supermarkets and restaurants! haha But in Santa Fe they are in their natural habitat and you can spot hundreds of them just chilling in their own private island. 🙂

  7. Wow, you got quite close to the sea lions. I’ve seen some in Cape Town but not this close. I’d love to go to the Galapagos Islands.

Hi Sara – Yes, the Galapagos islands are the most untouched islands I’ve ever visited. Nothing is more virgin than these archipelago! The government wants to exploit the area of tourism, so I recommend you to visit within the next five years before humans destroy them by constructing high-end luxury resorts, top restaurants etc. in order to attract more tourism.

  8. Awww aren’t sea lions the cutest with their whiskers and those cuddly faces with puppy dog eyes. Thanks for recommending the tour and beautiful photos. It’s really nice that you get to be up close and personal with them, which is quite the experience in itself.

  9. Wauw, The Galapagos Islands is a destination that must be on everyones bucket list. Would love to go there when we visit South America one day with our family.

  10. Whoa!!! This is really amazing, had heard a lot about the Santa Fe Island the white sand beaches, the crystal clear water ummm simply mind-blowing Mariella seems you had a very lovely time out there with the sea lions, they look so cute really a amazing creature. Keep posting cheers:-)

  11. Aren’t they funny? They always look exhausted and still they manage to have such big personalities!! We always travel with the kids and they would just love to see these big guys.
