The first stop is Pisac ruins overlooking the valley. It takes approx. 1 hour to explore this magnificent site. The views are unbelievable! It's a great place to meditate.
Visiting Pisac artisan market is a must! Specially if you want to buy souvenirs in this trip. Here you can find the same items but at a very reduced price in comparison to other markets around Peru. Besides, they offer a great variety of artisan artifacts.
Bargain for some Andean goodies at the traditional artisan market of Pisac.
By all means, avoid buying anything in Machu Picchu town. Everything is 3X more expensive!
The Sacred Valley of the Incas is the second most visited attraction in Cusco after Machu Picchu!
The next stop is Ollantaytambo town. The main attraction here is the archeological site which hang high on the valley walls overlooking the town. Ollantaytambo is the gateway to Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes).
Head over to the train station to board the train towards Machu Picchu. It takes approx. 1 hour and a half to arrive. The train ride is very pleasant! The seats are very comfortable and the panoramic views of the highlights are majestic. Everywhere you look, there’s a beautiful backdrop worth taking pictures of. (I took hundreds, ha!)
Once you arrive to Machu Picchu town, I suggest you to go directly to your hotel. Check-in to your room, take a long hot shower and go to bed. Visiting the ruins of Machu Picchu is no picnic! You’ll need to be well rested to get through the day of intense hiking through mountains.
