Honoring Mom

This week is very important for me. Not only its my mom’s birthday today, but this upcoming Sunday is Mother’s Day.  That’s why I decided to honor my mom with this thank you letter: Three years ago my mom and I made a pact: Every year we will take a mother-daughter only trip. The tradition started in 2014, and since then we make sure to take our yearly trip. Traveling with my mom is the best. She is by far the best travel partner someone could ever have. The first time we visited Australia and New Zealand. The following year we felt more adventurous and traveled to Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. Last year we opter for something more relaxing so we decided to visit Greece. Here’s why my Mom the best travel buddy: 1. Because she makes sure every picture she takes of me  is just the way I wanted it to be. 2. Because she always makes sure we do all the activities I want to do. (even if she’s not included.) 3. Because …

Guayaquil Top Attractions

📍 Guayaquil, Ecuador ✈️ Arrive at Jose Joaquin de Olmedo Airport (GYE) 🏨 Stay at Hilton Colon Guayaquil  ☀️ When to go? January to June 🍴Must Try: Locro de Papa, Pan de Yuca, Seco de Pollo, Llapingacho  🍸 Best Bars: Vento Rooftop – La Paleta in Las Peñas  Guayaquil, the city I once called home. I grew up and lived in this city until I was 18 years old. When the time to go to college arrived, I moved to Miami in the United States. As a world traveler, I can tell you that Guayaquil is not Ecuador’s main tourist destination. Ecuador has it all: beautiful tropical islands, the highlands, a gorgeous coastline and the amazon jungle. But if you find yourself in this city with no clue on what to do, here are my recommendations. You can tour the entire city in only two days! Guayaquil’s main attractions include the following: 1) Malecon 2000 – Spend the day walking across the Malecon 2000. This waterfront boardwalk located in downtown Guayaquil is what the city …

Travel Thoughts: Boarding Passes And The Art Of Collecting Them

Fun Fact: Every time I travel I prefer to print out my boarding pass because I like to collect them all. (Is that weird?) What do you do with your boarding passes? When I was little I remember my mom always telling me: “Mariella -make sure you hold on to to your boarding pass for your scrapbook” but times have changed. Nowadays we depend on technology. Electronic boarding passes are, without a doubt, a more convenient way to travel, but what’s the fun in that? Until this day, I save every boarding pass of every flight I take. (Yes, I have a lot of them and I love them!!!)     I don’t know why but every time I take a moment to go through my collection, It makes me smile and remember the trip or the specific airplane I boarded.   For example, every time I see my boarding pass from Bangkok to Cambodia I literally laugh out loud because of my experience trying to board this plane. Long story short: I missed my …

Riding a Donkey in Santorini

What a hilarious experience! It’s going to get good. Here’s my story:   I always heard that Santorini had the option of riding a donkey like local greeks did back in the day. You know before motorcycles and other motorized vehicles took over the world? Anyways, I never actually considered it but once I was there I said: “Oh what the hell! Let’s just go.”   I was convinced it was going to be a fun experience, so riding a donkey it is! We asked for directions and the souvenir store lady told us: “Keep walking ahead, you’ll start to smell them!”   Smell them? I didn’t understand at first. “Thank you so much!” I replied. We kept walking and out of the sudden we start to smell this disgusting (yet so weird) smell. “Omg please don’t tell me that’s how the Donkey’s smell?” I thought.   Of course they smelled disgusting. There are at least 60 donkeys just waiting in line eating and pooping everywhere… It was funny! “Let’s just do it. We are …

Travel Thoughts: Time & What Really Matters

The thing is, we all think we have time… Let’s take a moment to think about time. Its curious, the perception of time can vary from person to person. For some it passes slower, for some it goes way too fast.  For me, it goes fast. Sometimes faster that I would like to. So earlier today I took a moment to really think about time. “Am I spending enough time focusing on my career? Do I spend too much time watching Netflix? “These are the type of questions I started to analyze.  You cannot recover time. I wish I could back-up my life  just like I backup my laptop. It would be great if we could just recover the time wasted in insignificant things. I’m afraid of not spending the right amount of time on things that matter.  The thing is, decisions. Life is a series of decisions and what you do with your time is up to you. Determine what you really want from life and work towards it now. Today rather than tomorrow.  So the …
